It’s my turn to share what life is like at gm-design as a Design & Content Administrator…

Tell us about your typical working day in the Content Administration team at gm-design

The days tend to blur into one another here at gm-design as it can be pretty fast paced, which I love! I have the privilege of being able to work with a variety of brands, so I don’t really have a ‘typical’ working day, but I’d say most days do involve a level of content editing, implementation and proof reading across digital and print work.

For example, some of my time may be spent using Adobe’s Content Management System (CQ5), implementing and optimising content across 30+ international blog websites. Or at other times I’ll be working with a client’s education department to design and edit training materials, which are used to educate hairdressers all around the world! Or I may find myself creating translation documents or other admin related tasks to support the wider team… As you can tell it can be quite varied!

What are your favourite and least favourite things about working in the Content Administration team?

As with most jobs there are often tight deadlines and extremely busy periods, especially around product launches. However, we have a great team-working environment here in the gm. studio so when it’s ‘all hands on deck’ everyone pitches in, as we all strive to exceed our clients’ expectations.

When did you decide you wanted to work in a Design and Content agency, what inspired you?

I studied Filmmaking at university as I have always known I’d like to work in the creative industry. I have a keen eye for detail and thoroughly enjoy proofreading and copyediting so content seemed like the perfect route for me.

Personally, I find that in any job role variety is the key to happiness. So working for a design and content agency is extremely fulfilling – no two days are the same and I love that.

Which steps did you take to get you where you are today?

I have always been involved in the creative industry in some shape or form. During my studies for a degree in Filmmaking, I was able to make it my own in the third year and decided to focus on research.

Content research has always been my strong point and I am now lucky enough to be working in an area that I enjoy, digital marketing. It’s such a vast area, constantly evolving and moving forwards, so I’m always learning new things… it keeps me on my toes!

Which 3 words would you use to describe the gm. team?

Fun, creative and hard-working.

What’s your best tip for keeping a cool head under pressure?

Always ask for help if you need it. No matter how busy it is in the studio there will always be a friendly face who can offer you support if needed.

What advice would you give to any young people who would like to work in a similar role?

I would highly recommend a career within a creative agency if you enjoy a fast-paced environment and keeping up-to-date with the latest in digital marketing and design. There is never a quiet moment in this industry!

My main advice would be stay involved in as many creative activities as you can after college or university. It’s important to gain as much experience as possible to showcase your passion and drive, whilst perhaps opening up a possible career path.

Any parting words?

Do what makes you happy! That’s my ethos.
